It is not often that a lunch turns into an overnight stay; but when it does, you can be certain that it was a success and a day that won’t soon be forgotten.
It was on such a visit to Franschhoek that we visited Glenwood, family owned, boutique winery. Franschhoek itself reminds me of Europe and is one of my ultimate local getaways, and Glenwood, which is located in an area with such breathtaking beauty, was the cherry on top. Beautiful views and immaculate vineyards ‘manicured’ by the most impressive tractor, help make this vineyard something so special.
A warm welcome awaits you on your arrival accompanied by a welcome drink which is soon followed by an impressive cellar tour; and the cellar is home to some amazing paintings all done with red wine!
Speaking of wine, they have nine wines which include some interesting blends, such as a Semillon / Sauvignon Blanc Grand Duc as well as two Chardonnay’s – one oaked and the other not, however equally well balanced.
Glenwood, however, is known for their 6-course tapas food & wine pairing. Each tapa is paired perfectly with a wine, and once you have completed this, you are then able to select which one you would like to have as your main course.
For over thirty three years, Glenwood has been developed to become one of South Africa’s leading wine producers and wine exporter to 12 countries, and it shows. It truly is a remarkable experience and well worth the trip.
The food and wine experience must be booked in advance. They are open from 10am – 5pm. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org, Contact Number: +27 (0)21 876 2044.
