Driving 57 km westward from Stellenbosch lies the beautiful town of Wellington. Located in the Bovlei Valley, outside Wellington, is a beautifully refurbished Cape Dutch property dating from 1799, called Andreas, and co-owned by Angela Croft.
I had the privilege of being invited to spend a night at Andreas by Angela, and the moment we drove through the gates I could see how much time and love had gone into renovating this property. We were warmly welcomed by our host, Henry de Koker. He showed us around and ensured that we felt at home and were comfortable.
It is obvious that a lot of time and effort went into the planning of the renovations and the choice of décor. This is where old meets new – a fascinating combination. On the ground floor there are 2 spacious lounges and 4 luxury double bedrooms with all that you could need or ask for.
For me the beautiful gardens were a great attraction. They are immaculate and one can spend hours on the veranda looking out onto the garden or spending the hot summer days at the swimming pool. You are guaranteed to find tranquility there. Andreas is also the perfect location for yoga and a variety of other retreats, and romantic getaways.
It comes as no surprise that this place is so popular for hosting weddings, baby showers and special birthdays.
Andreas is also known for making one of the best Shiraz’s on the market, and I concur that it is delicious. They currently make only this one cultivar, but with a new winemaker taking over I am looking forward to seeing with what they will surprise us in the future.
I am extremely grateful to Angela and Henry for introducing me to Andreas and for a night in Wellington which I will long remember.
